Christine Purslow
Professor Christine Purslow started her career in hospital optometry but has also worked in private practice and specialist contact lens practice. After her own PhD in 2005, Chris went on to direct a research team at Cardiff University, and was also director of postgraduate taught courses for WOPEC. From Cardiff, Chris moved to become professor and head of optometry at Plymouth University, and then in 2013 changed to industry, when she was appointed to head of medical affairs for Thea Pharmaceuticals, UK & Ireland, working closely with UK ophthalmologists and optometrists. Chris has always maintained her clinical roots, and in 2020, moved to become director of optometry at SpaMedica, leading a team of over 120 specialist optometrists across 51 specialist eye hospitals. She has recently been appointed as clinical director of outpatients at SpaMedica. Chris has authored over 100 scientific papers and professional articles, supervised 18 PhD students and still really enjoys delivering engaging presentations to eye care professionals.
