Professor of the Department of Histology and Anatomy, director of the Neural Engineering Division, University Miguel Herna?ndez

Professor Eduardo Fernández received his MD from the University of Alicante in 1986 and a PhD in neuroscience in 1990. He has been visiting professor at the University of Utah, Oldenburg (Germany), Beth Israel and Harvard Medical School, and the University of Vienna. He is currently professor of the Department of Histology and Anatomy, director of the Neural Engineering Division of the Bioengineering Institute of the University Miguel Herna?ndez and adjunct professor at the University of Utah. He combines biomedicine with the physical sciences and engineering to better understand and safely interact with the nervous system. In  recent years, he has been coordinating several projects to demonstrate the feasibility of a neuroprosthesis, interfaced with the occipital cortex, as a means through which a limited but useful sense of vision could be restored to profoundly blind people.
