Professor Ian Pearce is a consultant ophthalmologist at St Paul's Eye Unit, Liverpool University Foundation Trust providing specialist services for AMD, vitreoretinal surgery, diabetic eye disease, uveitis and cataract surgery. He is honorary professor of clinical ophthalmology at the University of Liverpool and director of the clinical eye research centre at St Paul's Eye Unit. He has been principal/chief investigator for numerous international and national trials of novel treatments and therapies and is a nominated specialist clinical expert advisor to NICE for the appraisal of novel technologies. He is past-president of the Ophthalmic Imaging Association, and member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists professional standards committee and represents the Royal College at the DVLA Visual Standards Panel. For the Department of Health he is chair of the advisory committee on dangerous pathogens TSE ophthalmic dub-group. As well as delivering numerous invited international and national lectures Professor Pearce has authored three national guidelines, three book chapters and over 60 publications.
