Judy Lea
Judy qualified as an optometrist in 1987 and has worked in several different practice settings. She is currently head of optometry development for Specsavers which involves developing Specsavers pre regs to be as successful as they can through the Scheme for Registration. The role also sees her working in professional and clinical support roles, which have included authoring, presenting, and facilitating many CPD sessions. She is continuing her support with the universities that she started in her previous role as head of university engagement as the changes to professional qualifications evolve following the GOC's education strategic review. Prior to commencing her support roles, she opened Specsavers Opticians in Longton in 2003, initially as the sole optometrist director and also worked a weekly session at Royal Stoke University Hospital from 2010 to 2022, primarily supporting the corneal and orthoptic clinics. She is a former head of EOS for Specsavers, is a WOPEC lead assessor, a College of Optometrists stage 1 and 2 assessor and examiner, and holds a CAVA qualification which enables her to assess for the NOCN qualification in diabetic grading and screening.
