Velota is a consultant eye surgeon with special interests in complex glaucoma and cataract management. He is a consultant at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre since 2004, one of the biggest eye hospitals and is a regional specialist in paediatric glaucoma. Velota has keen research interests in glaucoma surgery and has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is an international expert in glaucoma tube-shunt surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and treatment for angle closure glaucoma. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and holder of Bronze National Clinical Excellent Award.
