100% Optical are working alongside RCA for the 10th time delivering the RCA Competition.
The annual 100% Optical x Royal College of Art Competition is back for 2024, encouraging students in the Royal College of Art, Fashion Footwear Accessories Millinery (FAME) department to take part. This year, we are proud to announce that the theme will be in recognition of our 10th year anniversary. 'Perfect 10' will have students designing and making eyewear out of their own 10 principles of good eyewear design.
Once again, the competition is supported by the College of Optometrists via Dr Neil Hendley, the curator of the British Optical Association Museum. The student’s task was to create a 6-page presentation including their research, inspiration, materials and sketches. The shortlisted students will showcase their frames throughout the three days at 100% Optical.
Throughout the process of researching and creating the frames, Tom Broughton from Cubitts has offered advice, materials and his own expertise. Students have worked closely with Steve Bunn in technical workshops hosted in Battersea, and received advice given by eyewear experts like Rocco Barker, frame maker and collector, and Lawrence Jenkin, frame maker and optician, alongside Bryan McGinn from De Selby eyewear.
